Voltage Multipliers. Use either a Full-wave or Half-Wave =
rectifier=20
circuit that outputs a DC voltage that is four times the peak voltage of =
the=20
input AC voltage. Any size voltage multiplier may be produced by =
cascading the=20
circuits shown below together.
The capacitors need to be sized to =
handle the=20
maximum voltage. The input capacitors should be rated at least 30 =
percent higher=20
than the required voltage, per standard Capacit=
or=20
Derating Guidelines.
Voltage Doubler. A rectifier circuit that outputs a DC = voltage=20 that is twice the peak voltage of the input AC voltage. The = voltage=20 doubler circuit rectifies each half cycle of the AC input voltage = and=20 combines the recified voltages using the capacitor to produce = twice the=20 peak amplitude of the input AC voltage. |

Voltage Tripler. A Half-Wave Voltage Tripler uses three diodes = to=20 produce a DC output that is three times the peak AC input. The voltage = rating of=20 capacitor C1 should be rated at the input AC voltage, and the voltage = ratings of=20 capacitors C2 and C3 should be twice the AC voltage.
Half-Wave=20 Voltage Tripler
Voltage Quadrupler. A Full-Wave Voltage Quadrupler uses four = diodes.=20 Capacitor C1 and C2 should be rated at the input AC voltage, and the = voltage=20 ratings of capacitors C3 and C4 should be twice the AC = voltage.

A common method to show voltage multipliers is to place the diodes at = an=20 angle on the schematic, however some engineering departments may not = allow this=20 particular configuration.
